A house that can withstand all things first must start with a strong and solid foundation. In 1990 our strength came in the form of a awesome female we named "Ayla" aka AKC/UKC Ch Sandstone's Spirit Of Ayla. Ayla was regal, always the lady, a fearsome hunter and a lover of all things small. Her superior quality and style shines through in many of the present great dogs.

I cannot remember a time in my life when we didn't have dogs, but it wasn't until Stan and I met in 1985 that the quest for a B & T Coonhound began. We lived in Oklahoma and Stan worked for Harold Hines who hunted Walkers almost every night. Stan was convinced he wanted a hound of his own and I was just as convinced it had to be one that I could also show, which meant it had to be a Black & Tan so the search was on.

It took 3 years to find the right dogs for us, we wanted dual registered dogs from lines that were actively hunted AND shown in conformation - something we found very hard to find but we were finally directed to Sandstone Kennels in PA.

As most people do, we learned all the things not to do with a Coonhound with our first dog "Tucker". Then we were lucky enough to get a female out of the great Ch. Traverse Hill Gypsy Woman and the rest is history. Ayla was the start of a wonderful relationship and breeding program that has produced Southchase B&T's as we know them today. Congratz to Shelley Campbell on her win at the Garden, Tess and Tiffany looked nice. Now it is time for the National in Louieville Ky later this month. Safe travel to all who will be attending and good luck and let the best dog win!

Big changes happening on the hill and as we make these changes we hope you follow along through this site, meet the new residents to Southchase and share with us your thoughts and questions.

We are really stepping into the new creation of Dawgwood Farm with the addition of our Registered Miniature Hereford Cattle, 4 beautiful heifers and one new little girl join the hill and with all the girls bred we will be doubling the count within the next couple of months. Our egg production is in full swing again and just in time, we cannot keep up with the demand for the fresh eggs. We are also adding the American Guinea Hog to the hill to provide a sweet, juicy and tender pork choice for the average sized family. We also a a litter or two planned this year, stay tuned :-)

We have definately made lemonade out the all those lemons dealt us!

Polly went to live with our friend Katleen in Estonia last year. Katleen wanted a dog that she could show as well as use for tracking wounded game. Her accomplishments speak for themselves. We would like to congratulate Polly and Katleen and look forward to many more updates.
